Ein Deutsches Requiem
November 21, 22, 23, 2014
Our November concert, Ein deutsches Requiem, showcases Johannes Brahms’ choral masterpiece, one of the great musical pillars of the 19th Century, but in a way you may not have heard before—a chamber setting! We’ll be using the piano four-hands arrangement that Brahms himself prepared for the first British performance of this masterwork. Without the giant orchestra, we’re excited about the new opportunities for clarity, nuance, and flexibility. We hope you agree.
We are very pleased to welcome two wonderful soloists, Jennifer Ashworth, soprano and Ben Kazez, baritone. Both are are both popular, highly respected members of the Bay Area music community.
Jennifer sings opera and operetta with Berkeley Opera, Festival Opera, San Jose Lyric, Pocket Opera, Oakland Opera and Lamplighters Music Theatre and is a member of the Philharmonia Baroque Chorale. Ben is a soloist with American Bach Soloists, Masterworks Chorale, Peninsula Symphony, San Francisco City Chorus, and Soli Deo Gloria. He has also sung with Chanticleer alumni in Clerestory.
